with Content and Device Used
December 30, 2021

AI-generated deep fakes are increasingly used in cybercrime and influencing public opinion, making it crucial to understand how people recognize them. This study explores the impact of political attitudes and agreement with political content on deep fake recognition skills. Results from 163 adults reveal a negative association between conservatism and the ability to identify fabricated videos, particularly when viewers agree with the content. The study also found that deep fakes viewed on mobile devices are less likely to be recognized compared to those viewed on stationary computers.
